The New Gucci Horsebit Chain Celebrates the Horsebit’s 70th Anniversary

The Gucci Horsebit, an iconic House motif rooted in rich history, is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Created in the 50s, a renewed emphasis is placed on the Horsebit this fall, which will forever remain a cornerstone symbol for Gucci.

The Horsebit’s inception was based on details borrowed from the equestrian world, joining two distinct elements: a double ring and a bar. That fusion comes together to create an instantly recognizable house code, which has since become a signature part of Gucci’s DNA. The Horsebit has been reinvented season after season, and it has seen many forms since it was first used on a pair of loafers in 1953.

An Ode to the Archives

In celebration of its 70th anniversary, Gucci launches the Horsebit Chain Bag. First seen on the runway as part of the Fall/Winter 2023 collection, the Horsebit Chain Bag is an ode to the Gucci archives, specifically, Tom Ford’s Fall 2003 collection, which featured the same oversized Horsebit hardware. Presented in new campaign images captured by photographer David Sims in Milan, the Gucci Horsebit Chain makes its big debut.

Designed with both style and versatility, the bag launches in a few different iterations, including leather, GG canvas, and exotics. Featuring double straps that allow for shoulder or hand carry, the images also showcase the bag clutched by hand. This portrayal is meant to feel representative of a certain era while showcasing a modern, contemporary appeal. Arriving in two sizes, small and medium, prices on the Gucci Horsebit Chain range from $2,690 for the small in GG canvas and $3,490 in leather to $2,890 for the medium in GG canvas and $3,890 in leather.
