Kirsten Dunst Rejects Method Dressing in Mint Green Coquette-Style Dice Kayek Dress at Civil War London Screening

The press tour for the dystopian action film Civil War is underway. Kirsten Dunst, who plays renowned war photojournalist Lee in the movie, kicked off the promotional activities on Tuesday by attending the Civil War special screening in London dressed in a modest mint green coquette-style gown.

Scheduled to be theatrically released on April 12, Civil War is set in near-future dystopian America. A team of journalists—two photographers and two reporters—travels from New York City to Washington, D.C., to cover the Civil War and chase a scoop while battling for survival as they try to reach the White House in time before rebels take over.

Kirsten Dunst’s outfit for the London premiere tells me that she isn’t a fan of method dressing. Though I know some are against it, I still think her outfit doesn’t feel appropriate for the movie.

Decoding Dunst’s Coquette Fashion Statement

Showcasing her interpretation of Gen Z’s coquette trend, defined as a flirty, romantic, and hyper-feminine aesthetic, the 41-year-old actress wore a mint green gown with a black bow belt accent and a Peter Pan collar from Dice Kayek’s Spring 2024 collection.

The Paris-based fashion brand, founded by Turkish sisters Ece and Ayse Ege in 1992, is known for its innovative and meticulous craftsmanship and use of exquisite fabrics. Dunst’s sleeveless gown flawlessly embodies the label’s style.

A Closer Look at Dunst’s Premiere Ensemble

Cut from a delicate mint green satin fabric, the magnificent dress worked well with Dunst’s pale skin tone. It had a Peter Pan collar and a sleeveless bodice with buttons along the front.

I adore the cinched waist that flowed into a floor-length A-line skirt, but I wish she had kept the original black oversized floral sash from the lookbook; it would have given the ensemble more flair. Kirsten instead added a black velvet belt, which was unfortunately tied tackily around her waist.

Stylistic Choices: From Dress to Accessories

I love the gown’s understated elegance, which aligns with Dunst’s refined and chic style. However, I think she looks better dressed in sleek and modern silhouettes like the white Gucci dress she wore to the 2024 Oscars earlier this month.

I appreciate the styling created by her longtime stylist, Samantha McMillen. Her high-profile clientele includes Dakota Fanning, Brie Larson, and Jodie Foster.

She accessorized the actress with tiny gold hoop earrings and a gold Chanel watch. A pair of black open-toe sandals rounded out Kirsten’s ensemble.

I also thought Dunst’s hairstyle was a bad choice for her appearance. She would have looked more put together if she had gone for a neat updo rather than the messy half-down, half-up style.

Her makeup seemed okay to me, but it felt lacking. She used pink lipstick, rosy blush, mascara, and subtle smokey eyeshadow to accentuate her blue eyes.
