I Really Like This Proenza Schouler Bag

When it comes to designer bags, a dozen or so premium designers are top of mind among customers (think Louis Vuitton, Prada, Hermès, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Celine, etc.) Not to mention, each season, there are some that are the most talked about for having released new It-bags or having swapped creative directors, capturing the attention of fans to see what’s on the horizon for the House’s transitional period. Right now, all eyes are on Loewe, Prada, Bottega Veneta, and Miu Miu.

Whether you agree or not, there’s no denying that these brands have been incredibly successful the last few seasons or so, creating a buzz amongst consumers and generating sales. And while the most popular brands among consumers tend to rotate, there are dozens of other brands, both luxury and contemporary, that aren’t always top of mind. Some brands tend to fall out of the spotlight, receiving much less love than they deserve. One of the brands that tend to fall to the back of my brain is Proenza Schouler, but recently, I’ve been intrigued by some of the brand’s new bags.

Proenza Schouler Forever

Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are the duo behind the NYC-based Proenza Schouler, and both are no strangers to creating a hit. Responsible for the PS1, one of the most popular cult-favorite handbags of the late 2000s, the pair has released a plethora of coveted handbags over the years, but still, few were as beloved as the PS1. Though the PS1 and then the PS11 lines cemented Proenza Schouler’s place in the handbag world, the brand continues to expand its offerings and create new silhouettes that New Yorkers (and beyond) must have.

A Look at the Proenza Schouler Drawstring Mini Bag

One thing that has always captured my attention regarding Proenza’s bags is how lush and supple the leather looks. I just want to smush it, and the Drawstring Mini bag offers that same sentiment. The soft leather paired with a scrunched leather handle and knotted details offer a nice contrast of textures. The shape is similar to the slouchy pouch-like bags we’ve seen since 2019, but this bag offers much more functionality with a zip top and a small strap.

Though ‘mini’ is in its name, I would actually consider it to be more on the small size, and with overall dimensions of 7.75″ L x 11.75″ W x 3.25″D, this bag could actually hold a fair amount of items. It’s crafted of lambskin and has a zipped interior with a slit pocket. At $990 for the smooth leather versions, $1,190 for the metallic, and $1,290 for the studded bag that first grabbed my attention, the price isn’t too bad either.
